Learn more about ME and My work in the community
I first moved to Mount Rainier in 2005 and, after attending graduate school, moved back to Mount Rainier in 2010. I fell in love with the community while at the University of Maryland through my connections to the Glut Food Coop.
I am now running for a Ward 2 seat on the council to bring my expertise in government, advocacy on progressive policy issues, and love for Mount Rainier together to ensure we are a safe, sustainable, and secure community. I also want to bring my desire to listen to others to solve the problems faced by us Mounties.
Soon after returning to Mount Rainier in 2010, at the recommendation of Mayor Malinda Miles, I joined the Environmental Protection Board, which later became the Green Team. I eventually became chair of the Green Team. Through the Green Team, I successfully advocated for rolling recycling cans, native planting, and municipal climate action while working with City Councilmembers and city staff achieving conensus on these priorties.
After stepping down from the Green Team, I began advocating for Prince George’s County Public Schools to commit to clean energy goals, which eventually led to working with Board Member Pamela Boozer-Strother on a resolution that was adopted unanimously by the Board of Education to make such a commitment and adopt a Climate Change Action Plan. I then cochaird the workgroup that wrote the plan with Board Member Boozer-Strother , which was adopted unanimously in April 2022. I am now a member of the ad-hoc workgroup conducting oversight of the implementation of the plan.
I also joined the Prince George’s Sierra Club Group, eventually becoming the Vice-Chair of the group. As part of group I advocated to the County Council on many issues, including smart land use and tackling climate change. Through this I also sat on the Residential Advisory Group that provided community feedback on that plan and developed relationships with County leaders.
I also have coached soccer for our Hyattsville/Mount Rainier/Brentwood (HMB) Tigers for several seasons, coaching both of my wonderful children, who are also in Prince George’s County Public Schools. Additionally, I lead my son’s Roots and Shoots group, where we teach the kids about community and the environment.
For my day job I work in the government in a neighboring city, and bring experience working on city budgets, grants, and other government functions. Prior to that, I worked with a regional group, the Ozone Transport Commission, where I worked with multiple state governments, helping them come to a consensus on pollution policies.
I have a lovely wife, Emma, and two children. I love listening to music, exploring the outdoors, gardening, and traveling for fun.
If elected as your Ward 2 Councilmember, I will listen to you, build consensus, and advocate for a progressive, sustainable Mount Rainier. I believe that Mount Rainier is a place where the government should serve all people.
I will be out and about in Ward 2, and look forward to talking to you about your needs and ideas for our community.
